Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have the mind power of a computer instead of the slow and meandering processes of the fleshy humans that we all are? Unless some of you out there really are extraterrestrial and the Men in Black was actually a documentary all along.

No, but seriously we here do spend a lot of our time thinking about how to improve our mental functions as best we can without actual cyborgisation, which frankly is massively on our radar as well. So that means that we have an abundance of information that you can use to help get yourself working a little bit more like a machine, in a good way of course.

1. Look at all of the responsibilities that you have and make sure to note them down in a systematic way. Threat your jobs like data in a database, and just as you use data quality software to maintain databases you should use proper care to make sure that you are giving your mind all of the nutrition that it needs to be fully functional and useful. Eat well and regularly, this is one of the best ways to be regular in your thought processes is to be regular with your body’s fuel intake.

2. You have to keep giving your mind point of reference, knowledge. If you are always taking in new information and storing it you will over time become much more analytical and systematic purely because you will be able to take trains of thought all the way through to completion without needing to pause for research or have reason to guess, at that point you will be much more efficient and able to come to the right conclusions with greater success.

Medical researchers have been using biomedical science methodologies to investigate the way that our bodies determine what the smell of different molecules are and they have come to a startling discovery that threatens the accepted explanation for how we smell.

The scientists recorded the abilities of test subjects ability to distinguish between two identical molecules, one which was motionless and another that was moving. Surprisingly the subjects were able to consistently distinguish between the two even though the traditional explanation of the limitations of our senses would predict our senses smelling them exactly the same.

This discovery fundamentally challenges the theory that we smell based on the shape of the molecules. Rather we might actually be tapping into quantum smelling abilities that we did not know we held within. Of course these are far from confirmed conclusions yet and in fact there is a lot of discussion among the established medical community among smell researchers.

As we further advance our ability to understand how our body works we step closer to better and better treatments to all of the medical problems that we suffer from today. Could we find out how to return the sense of smell top those that have lost that power thanks to studies like this one?

One thing we can be sure of is that as we understand the workings of our own body better and better we can only improve our efforts to heal and improve the running of our bodies that can only be a good thing for all of us.

This is really out there but could we improve to the point of needing much less nourishment to keep going and in the process solving the food shortages around the world. We live in a time of nearly limitless possibilities.

Private hospital treatment will always have the advantage over national health care purely because it does not suffer the same restrictions that national health care treatment does. That is not to say that private treatment is superior to treatment received on the NHS, but the time and effort spent per patient is vastly different.

Private Advantages

1. Initial Consultation

The time it takes to get seen by a consultant under the NHS can take up to 18 weeks (based on the NHS guidelines). Waiting times have been reported to be as high as 20-30 weeks in several cases in the past 3 years; a fact that has led the health secretary to threaten NHS Trusts with private bills is waiting times exceed 18 weeks. Under private healthcare a patient can usually be seen by a consultant within 1-2 weeks. This reduction in waiting can make a significant difference to a treatment’s outcome.

2. Core Care

Again the care quality difference between national and private does not have much separating it. The quality of trained medical professionals is of a similar calibre across both sectors. The difference lies only in the time they have to spend per patient. As a result private patients often report a far greater feeling of confidence and comfort during their treatment simply as private staff have more time to devote to a single patient.

3. Treatment

This is a cause for contention amongst many professionals, but the simple fact remains: treatment standards and methods are of equal value in both the private and public sector. Again the difference is in time. Due to consultations taking place far earlier then is possible under the NHS, a private patient can be diagnosed earlier and stand a greater chance of recovery due to treatment commencing sooner rather then later.

4. Get what you pay for

A check-up at a private London hospital may cost, but if it means receiving an earlier consultation leading to an increased chance of successful treatment, then the expense can be worth it.

What if I can’t afford private treatment?

There is no need to despair. Despite the media foghorn intent on indicting the NHS for any infraction against the status quo, the nationally funded system remains one of the best (and few) examples of healthcare in the world. There is also the option of paying for just those sections of private healthcare that you believe to be essential; for example pay for a quick consultation which leads to gaining a swift referral for treatment under the NHS.

Private healthcare has one main advantage over the national system – speed. In medical terms, the faster diagnosis and treatment occurs, the greater the chance and speed of recovery.

It was announced only the other day (05/12/2011) that the government has decided to reform the drugs regulatory process. This in theory could mean that new drugs could be available more quickly to those who need them and thus save lives. Currently due to the amount of red tape surrounding new drugs many people who would benefit from them are not getting them and dying each year as a result of the current process. The Prime Minister has also announced that there will be a massive cash injection into medical research, to the tune of £180 million.

However, it is not all good news as there are also highly controversial plans to allow drug companies access to the NHS clinical database and patient information with the emphasis and reasoning being that it will enable these companies to speed up their research. Although this will enable drug companies to hopefully complete their research and trials of new medicines quicker, it is still going to be a point of contention for many who may not want their private records being accessed by third party companies.

If the reforms are implemented it will change the way novel treatments are regulated, it will also give the pharmaceutical industry a long belated boost and recognition that is deserves. Although Britain may not be the hub of the manufacturing world anymore, it still produced more than its weight in the pharmaceutical world. We may only account for less than 1% of the world’s population and be the sixth largest economy in the world, but when it comes to medical research we outgun the completion, even the American’s are beaten by us in many areas of medical and scientific research.

It just goes to show that improvements are vital, whether it be in cosmetic research for treatments such as laser hair removal or the stem cell research, which could provide cures or more effective treatments for diseases such as diabetes.

If you heaven forbid find yourself in the situation where you have to care for your family, be it your partner, parents or even your children then you will be in need of support and quality care products to keep them healthy through the worst of the pain and suffering. However even though going through life pausing health issues will always be heart wrenching and difficult for both the one suffering from health problems and their loved ones who care for them and have to see them in pain. Medical progress might just be able to offer solutions to your problems that will help ease the difficulty of possibly the hardest time in anyone’s life.

So what can you do to lessen the pain that your loved ones have to suffer through? First of all you must talk to your doctor before you try anything new, even if you are set on the course that you have chosen you need to make sure that your doctor knows what you are trying so that if something does go wrong at least they will be able to be prepared for it rather than completely caught off guard if they are not informed.

Try to humanise your loved ones as much as possible, give them times where they can feel normal and not a strain on the ones that they love. They might not be able to look after themselves like they used to but if you give them the feeling that they can be their own person for at least a while then you will find them more like their old self than before and you might even find yourself enjoying their company like you used to which can help you too carry on with renewed strength that you will surely need.

Caring for family is never easy and always painful and remember you don’t have to beat yourself up if you don’t love it, the=at does not make you a monster it makes you human.

Treat yourself with some new-age, high-tech scales that can also measure body and muscle fat and then transmit the data to your home computer via wi-fi and magically the whole process might become just a little bit more tolerable for a change!

The practice of having a smoke has been proven to be a habit that is both hazardous and extremely habit-forming. It’s easy to pick up, but once it’s started, it’s a very tough habit to shake. There are many family lawyers in London being called due to diseases related to cigarette smoking and law suits happening. These days, you cannot sue a cigarette company for these things because it is clearly written on each pack the dangers of it. Cigarettes contain nicotine which affects the mental processes of a habitual smoker, increasing the desire for cigarettes beyond just pleasure. The brain begins to need the chemicals in the cigarette to function normally. Included below is just some of the data that could inspire you to quit partaking in this habit.

Men and women die by the millions every year due to smoking and the death toll is shooting up at a frightening pace. On average, it’s been estimated that someone dies every seven seconds due to the harmful effect of cigarettes.

The smoker is not the only one whose health is affected by their habit. The toxic effects of smoking can spread to everyone in the vicinity. Someone standing near a smoker can unknowingly breathe in some the chemicals in the air. The term secondhand smoking or passive smoking is used to describe the negative effects that people near a smoker can experience as they breathe in the remnants of the burned nicotine. Children are affected the most by secondhand smoking and they are the ones least aware of the deadly consequences. The fragile nature of children’s respiratory systems leaves them more susceptible to the toxins. Studies show that babies exposed to secondhand smoke within up to 18 months of their birth are substantially more likely to get bronchitis due to passive smoking.

The average smoker, who partakes in one or two packs of cigarettes on a daily basis can conserve approximately £630 per year once they’ve dropped their habit. The considerable savings alone should be cause enough for someone to quit.

			Benefits:
Health benefits: Quitting smoking is getting rid of habit that is quite detrimental so the health advantages are numerous and varied. Lowered blood pressure, better hygiene, improved senses in the areas of sight, smell and taste, increased energy levels as well as a considerable stamina boost and the risk of contracting any number of smoking-related diseases, including the cancer and heart attacks, drops precipitously once smoking is out of the picture.

Emotional benefits: One’s health is not the only thing that improves once they quit smoking, there are also emotional benefits. You generally begin to relate more comfortably with those you love. There is more trust between friends. There is an air of positivity and you begin to appreciate life more. Quitting smoking can improve how you view yourself and the world around you, eliminate guilt and excuses and eliminate the charges against your life. Quitting can be viewed as an accomplishment to be admired, giving you a sense of victory.

Smoking is really hazardous to your health and can cause many diseases

			Quitting Withdrawls:
Those who partake in smoking know the disastrous effect it can have on their body. Many try to quit at some point in their lives and they experience both the positive and negative effects of their choices. Once the quitting process begins, there will be numerous changes in the way your body functions without certain chemicals present in cigarette smoke. The withdrawals manifest as a drop in blood sugar levels. This results in other side effects such as dizziness, an inability to focus and other changes in behaviour and mood. A drop in blood sugar levels causes your body to react in much the same way as it would if the oxygen levels in your body started dropping and you just might crave sugary, sweet foodstuffs.

Once you’ve quit, your system will usually begin to make adjustments for functioning without the nicotine. The odds that you will have a heart attack drop dramatically as time goes on. Synapses begin to grow again and this will enhance your ability to experience the sights, tastes and smells of the world around you. Your bronchial tubes will begin to relax and loosen which increases your lung function as well as your circulation. To top it all off, you can feel good knowing that your saving quite a few quid, which can be put to better use elsewhere.

			Natural Herbs for Quitting:
Once you have made the choice to stop smoking, the question of what methods you will use to quit comes into play. Why use one of the many products which itself includes nicotine or some other drug to replace the nicotine you were getting from the cigarettes. You may be able to stop smoking, but there will always be a reliance on nicotine, because your body will never get the chance to flush it out. Why put yourself through that when there are natural herbs that are very effective in the fight to quit.

The primary advantage of using herbs in your attempt to quit is the lack of nicotine or other such replacement drugs, thus there are no side effects. One can even go back to using the natural herbs after they’ve gone through a weak period of craving after a very long time, unlike nicotine replacement therapy which forces you to start the full treatment from the beginning again if such a thing was to happen. Included are just a few of the natural remedies that can help you along your path to a smoke-free life.

Ginger is quite helpful in the efforts of a recovering smoker. It relieves symptoms like upset stomach and nausea that occur during the withdrawal period. Licorice can be used as well. It assists the body in its clean-up process by whisking away toxins that have built up in a smoker’s system through their life. It also fights fatigue and depression.

There is even a plant called Lobelia inflata which has just been recently found and its make-up is similar to nicotine in almost every way, except for the fact that it does not share nicotine’s addictive properties.

All individuals are possible organ donors regardless of their age. Following passing away of the donor, each organ is assessed independently. If the organ is healthy and is operating fine, then donation is undoubtedly possible. The Donor Community has acquired organs from both young donors and from older people alike. Hence, the patient’s medical background is lot more important as compared to the age. If cancer, HIV or infection exists, then donation will be canceled. In the event of Hepatitis, some facts about the patient at the time of death are important. Those suffering Hepatitis B or C can donate organs to suffer of the same condition.

Right after the death is confirmed, organs should be removed for the body as fast as possible. All of the expenditure pertaining to the donation is absorbed by the Organ Procurement Department. The donation will not mar the dead body and will not lead to any postponement of the funeral. The identity of the donor or even the donor’s household will not be disclosed to anyone. There is an ethics committee for the Organ procurement department. Also, each and every hospital has an ethics committee that discusses every single scenario.

It is not unrealistic for a living individual to donate a kidney or even a part of the pancreas, liver or lung. These donations are managed by transplant facilities found in the area the recipient lives. It is true that it is difficult to answer how to conduct an amicable divorce, but technological development have certainly made organ donations by living donors safe and easy. Following are some of the deciding factors for organ donation by a living individual:

Interest level of the donor

Requirement of the recipient

Willingness of the donor’s family

There is no doubt that organ donations can save lives, and in many case it can improve the quality of life for the sufferer. For example, patients who are constantly admitted to the hospital could replace the ailing organ, to get rid of there sickness once for all. In case you are not willing to make the donation while you are alive, you can certainly do it after your death.

Have you ever been to the doctor’s office with a simple problem, and had them perform a simple non-intrusive procedure, only to later receive the bill in the mail, and learn that it was billed as a “surgery”. This has happened before. For example, once a young lady had problems with her ear canals. They were rather narrow compared to those of others, and would easily clog with wax. She went to the doctor’s office because one of her ear canals was completely blocked by wax and hearing was impaired in this ear, just due to the wax. The assistants at the doctor’s office did a simple cleaning procedure, but when the bill came, it declared that surgery had been done, and that she owed a nice sum.

If you have ever had a similar experience, or have ever had problems with wax in your ear canals, there are some ways to help prevent wax build up, even if your ear canals are fairly narrow. This can help prevent you from needing “surgery” and having to pay and arm and a leg for a simple procedure!

First of all, there are several solutions that help soften ear wax. You can use a mix of hydrogen peroxide with warm water. Put a little of this solution into the problem ear first, and let it soak. Then, using a syringe, squirt this solution forcefully into the ear to attempt to dislodge the ear wax.

A much simpler and more effective softening agent is olive oil. Besides olive oil, you should be prepared with a tissue and a few q-tips from your cosmetics case so that you can pour the oil out of the ear onto the tissue, and further clean your ears with the q-tips. Once you are prepared, put several drops of olive oil into the ear canal (enough to fill the canal) and let it sit for a few minutes. After this, the ear wax is much softer and will likely be easy to remove with a q-tip.

Besides these steps, each time you have a hot shower and wash your hair, clean your ears out with q-tips afterward. Due to the hot water, and the steam, your ear wax will be softened, and easy to remove. However be careful to be gentle, as if you are too rough with the inside of your ears, it can cause ear pain for a day or two afterward.
